How To Hide Files In JPG Images

How To Hide Files In JPG Images

Welcome to my tutorial on how to hide files in JPEG images. In this tutorial i will be using a file named "Youwin.txt" and an image named "

Now you might ask, what might this guide be useful for? Well you can hide files so that nobody will ever suspect that they're hidden. Or you could just show off to all your friends. :)

1. Move your files you want to combine in a new folder, name this folder Hidden. Move this folder to your C drive, so now it is C:/Hidden.

2. Add the file you want to hide into a new RAR archive (in our example named Youwin.txt.rar).

3. WinRar creates the archive in the folder where the other files are located.

4. Open Command Prompt (Start -> Run..., type cmd and press Enter).

5. Go to the folder where your files are located, in this case C:\Hidden by using the cd command.

6. Now type copy /b untitled-9.jpg + Youwin.txt.rar dragon.jpg where unitled-9.jpg is the original picture, Youwin.txt.rar is the file that will be hidden, and dragon.jpg is the file which will contain both (make up a name for this file). If you're having trouble, take a look at the format used in the picture below.

7. Now if you go back to the folder, you'll see a new image called dragon.jpg.

Now you are done hiding the file into the image. This next part of the guide will show you how to open the hidden files.

8. Try opening the file with WinRar (select All files).

9.
Now you can see the Youwin.txt that is hidden in the picture.

Stenography is also pretty neat. Maybe I'll get around to writing a guide for it :D

Nice guide though, :]

Yeah it is pretty neat. I got this idea from back in the day when Justin held that contest, where you had to find the message in the image. :)

Can't upload to most image sites because they check the MIME.

Lust 03-08-2009 07:37 AM

People seem to think that opening the image will run an .exe, that is definitely not the case.

Glitching 03-08-2009 03:51 PM

Omfg this is cool.
I just got an idea for what I could do with this.

Mod_Cubsmiles 03-09-2009 01:06 PM

Awesome, I will you this.

AndyIsIndo 03-18-2009 01:41 PM

can you hide a virus in there that will run?

Jello 03-18-2009 02:14 PM

So the program/file will only open if you open it with WINRAR? If so, this technique won't work for malicious uses. Still fairly helpful. Thanks.

Lust 03-18-2009 04:23 PM

I've already stated that this is impossible to use for malicious uses.
