I've never been in that quest area or ever had that item but I'm guessing you leave the area while spamming interfaces and then drop the item? Or are the items even area based, death and several other things I can think of could possibly allow you to keep them.

you cut the logs in the ghost realm and when you leave they turn into normal magic logs right so yeah death, teles, using familiar, ect ect dont work
try doing the 1st quest and getting a friend with 82 wc

I have 87 wcing.. and those were certain effects of the area i was unaware of.

Wait you only need 82 woodcutting to cut the cursed logs? When it takes 85 wcing to cut regular magic logs. So when you leave the area they turn into regular magic logs? Dose that mean you can get magic logs without 85 wcing. That's kinda a bug all it's own.
